Expo 2010 Shanghai Opening Ceremony

David Atkins Enterprises was engaged by Expo 2010 Shanghai to create and deliver the Opening Ceremony staged on the Huangpu River. Bound by the Nanpu and Lupu bridges the three kilometre section of river became the stage to the largest multimedia display ever attempted.

DAE engaged Auditoria's Scott Willsallen to design wired and wireless voice communication systems, wired and wireless data communication systems and site wide video surveillance. Due to his experience in designing large scale Ethernet networks for events, Scott's scope was extended to include the design of the audio and lighting data networks in conjunction with Paul Collison, the Lighting Project Manager. Scott worked closely with Colin Dwyer, the Audio and Comms Project Manager, through the implementation of the various systems.

The scale of the communications requirements for this project was significant with over 800 radio users scattered over 30 square kilometers and 50 radio channels, wired and wireless delivery of three types of synchronisation timecode for all technical departments, 60 fixed wired users spread over three control areas and 15 remotely controlled PTZ cameras.

The project was a huge success for DAE and Shanghai Expo.
